Granna’s Goodies all began with the love to cook. From the time I was a little girl, I have wanted to help in the kitchen. I was taught to make homemade biscuits in an old wooden bread tray. I would pick apples from the back yard, then peel, slice, and place them on a pillow case to dry in the sun. We would freeze the dried apples to use in making delicious fried pies.
Around the holidays, we always had fresh Coconut Cake, made from whole coconuts. I could hardly wait until the milk was drained out and the coconut was cracked opened. A grinder was attached to the table, and I would get to turn the handle to grind the coconut for the homemade icing.
As I grew up, I learned how to raise food for canning and freezing as a way to preserve the freshness of fruits and vegetables. When I got married, I used all my homemade recipes, still calling for help from time to time. Cooking was a favorite pastime. Three years later, our son was born. A funny memory of ours is that he was out of high school before he ever ate a canned biscuit. Homemade biscuits and gravy, even old-time chocolate gravy, was a favorite of his. After 21 years of marriage, we lost his dad in an accident. My son finished college and with the only thing that I really knew and loved to do, we opened a convenience store with a kitchen/deli.
After a short time, we began making homemade goodies to sell in the store. The kitchen soon became a bakery as word spread and demand grew. We are now in our 10th year. In that period, my son, now a partner in the business, married a beautiful girl and has since blessed me with two beautiful grandchildren, who call me Granna. I have married again and now have a stepson and two more lovely grandchildren.
Thanks to my grandchildren, the name “Granna’s Goodies” was born and we are still placing recipes from the past on our counters daily. But now we are offering to share with the world (and will be adding more in the days to come) our love for cooking.
Love,
Granna
